La Hire
(ca. 1390-1443)
   military figure
   Born in Vignolles, gascogny, Étienne de Vignolles, or La Hire as he is known, was a comrade-in-arms to joan of arc and took part in the defense of Orléans and the victory of Patay (1429). He was taken prisoner in attempting to rescue Joan of Arc from Rouen (1431), escaped, then won a number of victories in the north of France against the English. La Hire became an important adviser to King charles vii.
